A few good reasons to meditate
- Create a balanced relationship with your mind as you steer it in the direction you wish to go.
- Become less attached to your perspective and more willing to listen to other’s point of view with an open mind.
- Become less affected when faced with challenges.
- As you practice letting go of who you view yourself to be, move closer towards who you truly are.
“Effort towards steadiness of mind is practice.”
~ Patanjali Yoga Sutras
What is yogic meditation?
While developing the ‘witness’ or ‘observer’ is an important and key part of yogic meditation, focusing the mind on an object of concentration is also fundamental. A dissipated or distracted mind is in a weakened state. Focusing the mind is a way of strengthening the mind, in the same way that working out strengthens our muscles. A converged, focused mind can accomplish anything.
Common objects of concentration are the breath, an image, a sound vibration (mantra), awareness/presence, or a combination of these. However, your object of concentration can be anything you choose. Some may wish to link their object of concentration to a Higher Power and trust that it is drawing out their fullest potential. The yogic meditation courses will provide you with valuable techniques, giving you a better chance of being focused.
During our sessions together you will learn how to set up your meditation practice so that your expectations are realistic, so that you don’t become frustrated, and so that you find your practice interesting, enjoyable, and something to look forward to!

Nothing outside us can bring lasting happiness

At our core, we are already content. That state is generally obscured by the waves of the mind—our thoughts. Thoughts are the waves in the lake that prevent us from seeing our true reflection, which we would otherwise see in a perfectly still and serene lake. The very thing we identify with and take to be who we are—our thoughts—are blocking our view of the truth of who we are.
One of the problems with not knowing who we are is that we overcompensate with quick fixes and distractions—keeping busy, social media, overeating, retail therapy, Netflix…but distractions can only take us so far. The fulfillment is short lived and before long we need to look for the next thing to feel happy. Meditation can help us to enjoy these things without being dependent on them.
